The political economy of natural resource extraction in Nigeria has been a subject of academic debate for decades, with Central Africa's rich mineral and hydrocarbon resources playing a significant role. The research employs a triangulation approach combining qualitative interviews with semi-structured questionnaires in three case study regions: Ogoni, Bodo, and Bakassi. Quantitative data analysis includes regression models to measure economic impacts and thematic mapping for spatial analysis of resource distribution. Key findings indicate that the proportion of MNC profits reinvested locally is significantly lower than expected, with only a quarter of revenues allocated towards community development projects in Ogoni. The study concludes that current governance frameworks are insufficient to ensure equitable benefits for local populations. Recommendations include enhanced transparency and stakeholder engagement mechanisms. Enhance the implementation of existing regulations, increase public participation in resource management decisions, and promote sustainable economic development strategies.
