Abstract Because of the importance of the rate of oxygen uptake by the cornea, various techniques have been used to measure the oxygen utilization. A probe covered by a polyethylene membrane can be placed against the unanesthetized cornea and the rate of change in oxygen tension recorded. The rate can be converted to indicate the rate of oxygen flow from the polyethylene membrane to the cornea.
