Willow bark extract has been used for thousands of years as an anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and analgesic also used as in pain management. Salix alba (SA), commonly known as white willow, is a plant used in folk medicine. The phytochemical characteristics of the bark extract of this plant indicated that its main component is salicin, which is precursor of the anti-inflammatory agent acetylsalicylic acid. White willow bark has the property of showing gram-negative intestinal bacteria.
