Abstract The deep circumflex iliac artery axial pattern flap can be used for closure of defects in the pelvic region. The rarely reported flap can be based on the ventral or dorsal branch of the described artery. Basal cell carcinoma is an uncommon cutaneous neoplasm in dogs, with few detailed reports describing its clinical presentation and management. This case report provides an in‐depth description of the surgical reconstruction following wide excision of a basal cell carcinoma from a dog's caudal dorsum. It contributes to the limited literature by documenting the successful use of an axial pattern flap based on the dorsal branch of the deep circumflex iliac artery for closure of a large cutaneous defect.
