Introduction Every country experiences in one form or another crime, violence and victimisation. Developing countries according to Natarajan (2016) record the greatest number of serious crime problems and only slight attention is paid to crime problems in developing countries by criminologists and other professionals compared to the colleagues in developed countrics. Crime, a major social issue, affects thousands of lives each year (Fkong and Ebong, 2008). Crime is illegal activity or action that is punishable by law (Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English, 2005). It is defined as illegal actions by Oxford English Dictionary(2007). Crime in the context of this paper means illegal activities and actions that involve stealing from others using any physical means (illegal entry, violence and threats), damage and destruction of property and assault. How crimes play themsclves out depends on the prevailing political, economic and social conditions and the configuration of the environment.
