Last year, the author reported the results of an analysis of the determinants of well-being among Japanese gay men in The Senshu Social Well-being Review No.8, 2021. This study also raised the issue of the subjective well-being of sexual minorities of other categories. Hence, using the same analytical framework as the previous study, this study extends the analysis to Japanese lesbian women. A multiple regression analysis was conducted using data from 1,187 respondents (927 heterosexual women and 260 lesbian women) obtained from a web-based survey of heterosexual and lesbian women living in Japan led by the author in 2021, after controlling for their sociodemographic characteristics. The analyses revealed that other than family support, lesbian women had fewer significant variables that increased their sense of well-being compared to heterosexual women. The fact that only one's significant other's support and family support significantly impacted the well-being of gay men and lesbian women, respectively, suggests the social and economic insecurity (disadvantages) lesbian women face in Japan.
