As in other medical disciplines, randomised controlled trials (RCTs) are the cornerstone of evidence-based medicine in reproductive medicine. Over the past decade, a number of large multicentre RCTs in reproductive medicine have contributed to improving the clinical practice of in vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment. Our team has also conducted a series of RCTs on embryo transfer strategies in different populations (women with polycystic ovary syndrome, ovulatory women and women with low prognosis), on methods for embryo selection by pre-implantation genetic testing for aneuploidies and on immunotherapy for recurrent implantation failure. These findings have provided important evidence for making clinical decisions. In the future, to promote individualised treatment and evidence-based assisted reproductive technology, large trials and cohort studies based on cross-centre collaboration are needed to resolve the key uncertainties in the optimal methods for embryo selection, transfer techniques, endometrial preparation and also its effect on offspring health.
