Purpose This study aims to analyze the impact of various embroidery parameters on the drape behavior of embroidered fabric using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Taguchi experiment design. Design/methodology/approach Three different Polyester/Cotton (P/C) blended plain woven shirting fabrics with varying Gram Per Square Meter (GSM) and drapeability, along with nine embroidery threads of different linear densities and tensile properties, were used. Three embroidery designs with different stitch densities and lengths were selected. The sample plan combined Taguchi experiment design principles and random combinations of input parameters. Statistical analysis was conducted using graphical plots, ANOVA and Signal to Noise Ratio (S/N) ratio. Findings The drape coefficient of the base fabric, stitch density and embroidery thread tenacity were the most influential parameters. Increased rigidity of base fabrics significantly reduced system robustness (S/N). The study indicated a prominent reduction in drapeability and increased anisotropic nature of fabric due to embroidery. Originality/value The data sets used are primary and obtained through standard testing methods. The results are unique and significant for research on embroidered fabric properties.
