Education is widely recognized as a fundamental driver of social transformation and democratic development in modern societies. In a diverse and complex country like India, it plays a pivotal role in shaping informed, responsible, and participatory citizens. This study examines the relationship between education and socio-political development in contemporary India, with a focus on how educational processes contribute to democratic values, citizenship, and nation-building. Adopting a qualitative, interpretative, and exploratory research design, the study draws on both primary data—through semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, and field observations—and secondary sources such as government reports, policy documents, and academic literature. A purposive sampling technique was used to collect data from students, educators, academicians, and policy stakeholders in West Bengal.
