This review summarizes first-row transition-metal catalysis for the conversion of carbon-hydrogen into carbon-carbon bonds. In particular, catalysis by manganese, iron, cobalt, copper, and nickel is covered. These metals are abundant in the Earth’s crust but so far they have been comparatively underutilized in carbon-hydrogen bond-functionalization reactions.
