The potential role of synovial T‐cell infiltration following knee joint injury in symptoms and progression to osteoarthritis
Key Points
To explore the role of acute T-cell activation in the development of osteoarthritis following joint injury.
Identified T-cell infiltration in knee joints after injury
Analyzed the relation to long-term osteoarthritis risk
Acute T-cell activation correlates with increased symptoms following joint injury
Increased T-cell presence indicates higher risk for developing osteoarthritis
Abstract
We identify a hitherto unappreciated pathophysiological role of acute T-cell activation after joint injury in long-term post-traumatic OA risk, providing a novel diagnostic and therapeutic target.
