Fatty disorders of the salivary glands are a clinical conundrum and, being rare, can prove challenging for the clinician. A ready reckoner for the differential diagnosis and management of these disorders is presented, along with a case report of a parotid sialolipoma and its treatment. A "Proliferation-Dysfunction theory" to explain the etiopathogenesis of sialolipoma and its natural course of growth and expansion is also proposed.
