In the contemporary digital era, social media has emerged as a central force shaping political engagement, particularly among the youth. This article examines how social media influences young people’s voting behavior, political awareness, and civic participation. Drawing upon existing research, this study highlights that social media enhances democratic engagement by providing accessible information and interactive platforms. However, it also raises concerns regarding misinformation, echo chambers, and political polarization, which can undermine informed decision-making and create divisions among the electorate. The article argues that while social media holds the potential to strengthen democratic processes and carries certain negative implications, such as the spread of misinformation and the creation of echo chambers, its impact ultimately depends on users’ digital literacy and institutional safeguards that can mitigate these risks.
