The NOAA Air Resources Laboratory HYSPLIT atmospheric fate and transport model was used to carry out a screening-level analysis of downwind concentrations of PM2.5 and PM10 arising from hypothetical in-situ burns of Cook Inlet and North Slope crude oil. Emissions from four hypothetical sites in the Cook Inlet region and four hypothetical sites in the North Slope region were simulated, based on burn scenarios developed in an earlier modeling analysis carried out for the State of Alaska (McGrattan et al., 1993).
