Mitochondrial DNA in Sepsis

Although mtDNA is a DAMP shown to be elevated in numerous conditions, the clinical ramifications of this finding remain elusive. Further work is needed to determine if mtDNA can be utilized as a biomarker of disease severity or mortality.
