The best-known edible mushrooms that grow wild in Romania are species of Agaricus, Amanita, Armillaria, Boletus, Cantharellus, Lactarius, Leccinum, Macrolepiota and Russula. This paper presents the main macroscopic characteristics of the identified mushrooms, their therapeutic potential, their role as functional food, and some practical advice for distinguishing them from inedible or toxic species.
