Artemiannua A (1), a new sesquiterpenoid derivative, and a new natural compound (artemiannua B, 2), along with six known compounds (3-8), were isolated from Artemisia annua (sweet wormwood). The structures of the new compounds were elucidated by 1D/2D NMR, ECD, and HR-ESI-MS experiments. The anti-inflammatory activities of compounds 1-8 were evaluated using the Griess assay. In LPS-induced RAW264.7 macrophages, compounds 1, 2, 5, and 6 markedly reduced NO generation, suggesting possible anti-inflammatory properties. Furthermore, the MTT technique was used to evaluate the hepatoprotective properties of compounds 1-8 against liver damage caused by acetaminophen.
