All fieldwork was undertaken in accordance with current best practice and the CIfA's Standards and Guidance for Archaeological Investigation and Recording of Standing Buildings and Structures (CIfA 2019a) and Understanding Historic Buildings (Historic England 2016) and in line with the WSI. A photographic record of the building was completed. Photographs of structural changes and detailed plans were made as appropriate. A Historic Building Recording was carried out in October 2022 at Knowles Farm, Fleet Street, Horwich prior to demolition of the building. The farmhouse is an L-shaped structure in plan, formed of an original two-storey, two-unit house of probable late 17th-century date, with an outshut extension of possible 18th-century date to the rear, and an added large gabled wing of probable early 20th-century date. Substantial alterations were made to the windows and fabric of the original farmhouse at the time of the early 20th century alterations.
