Energy innovation projects rely on complex demonstration activities to validate integrated technologies and interoperability among diverse stakeholders. However, these demonstration scenarios are often described using heterogeneous formats that limit their reproducibility and interoperability. This paper proposes the use of a single methodology to define the technological scenarios in innovation projects from the design of functionalities to their evaluation and testing, ensuring greater consistency, coordination between stakeholders and traceability among the different phases. In particular, the presented framework is an adaptation of the IEC 62559–2:2015 standard for defining demonstration scenarios within the InterPED project. While IEC 62559 is traditionally employed to describe use cases in Smart Grids or interoperable energy systems development, its structured approach has proven valuable utility for demonstration scenario definition, objectives validation, experimental constraints, and configurations consideration. The proposed framework ensures methodological consistency, facilitates stakeholder coordination, and enhances traceability between design and validation phases. An example from InterPED illustrates the practical application of this approach. The paper concludes by discussing benefits, limitations, and future directions for systematic standard-based demonstration frameworks in energy innovation projects.
