In February 2009, ARCUS were commissioned by Severn Trent Water to undertake an archaeological watching brief on 40 geotechnical trial holes along the line of a new large-diameter treated water main. The route of the pipeline is in the vicinity of Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, and parishes in the neighbouring county of Worcestershire (NGR SO 9141 3953 - SO 8923 2695). The watching brief was required in order to present information that could inform later stages of archaeological intervention. No significant archaeological features were identified. A small number of ceramic items, including Roman and Medieval sherds, were recovered although the majority of artefacts were 19th-and 20th-century in date.
