The Reflex Core Continuum (RCC) is an 18-phase cognitive architecture designed to address a fundamental gap in contemporary conversational AI systems — the absence of temporal-affective coherence across dialogue turns. RCC inverts the conventional Reason-then-Respond paradigm in favor of React-then-Reason, grounding AI response generation in an instantaneous reflex layer before deliberative reasoning engages. The architecture is organized across three macro-strata: Reflex and Emotional Residue (Phases 1–6), Collective Awareness and Conscience (Phases 7–12), and Equilibrium and Compression (Phases 13–18). Core mechanisms include asymmetric Echo decay, Ripple direction tracking, a five-level Conscience Stack, a Virtue scoring interface, and an Equilibrium controller with self-centering dynamics. A fully coded Python implementation (~2,800 lines, 16 modules) was evaluated against a baseline LLM across three controlled test suites — Emotional Stress, Business Continuity, and Identity Stress — producing consistent behavioral improvement with deltas ranging from +7 to +13 points across all suites. The architecture is validated as model-agnostic across Claude, GPT-4o, and Gemini. This preprint is released to establish authorship and timestamp of the RCC architecture. Version 1.0, April 2026.
