Cartoons are associated with visual storytelling. They were initially portrayed through comic strips and illustrated narratives. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, cartoons were largely confined to printed formats such as newspapers and magazines. Cartoonists typically created comic stories incorporating humour, satire, and social messages.Cartoons are created using characters, and their primary target audience is children. Initially, cartoons were based on comic characters and existed in printed formats. Over time, they have undergone several animation technological transformations in early 1900s. The introduction of synchronized sound made cartoons a more dynamic and engaging form of content. Over time, in the mid-20th century, cartoons became popular through television and cinema. With the rise of television, cartoons turned into a daily form of content consumption for children. Consequently, children’s programming became more prominent, attracting a wider audience.Anime was introduced in the late 20th century and gradually gained popularity due to its complex storytelling, engaging presentation, distinctive visual style, emotional appeal of characters, and audience-engaging narratives. Children are particularly fond of anime due to its visually appealing and engaging presentation. After the 21st century, with the advent of computer-generated imagery and online streaming platforms, cartoons became widely available on YouTube and Netflix. In the present scenario, children are more likely to watch cartoons on smart phones rather than on television. This shift can be attributed to various factors, including the ease of scrolling and greater control over the screen. Over time, cartoons have undergone several technological and cultural transformations in animation. They have adapted to new technologies and continue to remain one of the most widely accepted forms of entertainment for children. Among the many popular cartoon shows, Chhota Bheem and Ninja Hattori have been selected for the purpose of this study. The objective of the study was to understand how violence has been shown by the name of entertainment and eventually few narratives have been set which formed the perception of young viewers. The focus of the study was two popular cartoon shows. Four sub themes followed by one major theme have been developed to analyse the study. Primary and secondary data sources were consulted. The main theme was violence and the four sub themes were power imbalance, violence as entertainment, maltreating animal, and structural violence.A thematic map has been developed to show how the main themes as well as sub-themes were related to each other and together they showed how the violence were showing in the name of entertainment.
