This paper assessed the application of information and communication technology on safety and security challenges in operational intra-urban motor parks of selected corridors in Lagos, Nigeria. The research design adopted a survey design. Seven motor parks are located along Lekki-Epe Expressway, Ikorodu road, and Lagos-Badagry expressway as the study corridor. The sampling frame for the study emanated from the average number of vehicles per hour by the average number of passengers per hour and the daily average hours (8 am – 4 pm) in the motor park, during peak periods of five working days (29,014). Kothari’s sample size formula was used to arrive at 191 passengers. A purposive sampling technique was adopted. The sampling procedure entailed the identification of study corridors, division of corridors into densities, identification of intra-urban motor parks on the study corridor, selection of major intra-urban motor parks, and identification of passengers at selected intra-urban motor parks to obtain data by a structured questionnaire. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The Passengers’ Agreement Index (PAI) of factors responsible for safety and security challenges using a 5-point Likert scale revealed that consumption of alcohol and drugs (4.27) unemployment (4.26), and violence (4.21), were the three major factors. The study recommends the use of close circuit television (CCTV), geographic positioning system, geographic information system, solar-paneled lighting systems, smart shelters, real-time information, and LED displays towards solving safety and security challenges in the motor parks.
