The study reviewed the need for organic farming extension in Nigeria. Secondary sources of information were used in the review process. The study revealed that farmers access to external inputs was limited and their ability to improve production was low given the economic and social disabilities to which they were been exposed. These conditions could be made a bit favorable for the introduction and promotion of organic farming in which the traditional system was found conducive for such adaptations with the state support for conversion to organic farming. The study revealed the benefits of organic farming to include, healthy foods, improved soil quality, increased, crop productivity and income. However, the main problem lies with the government agencies involved in extension activities that focuses on organic farming, including the extension workers, still believe in the positive impact of conventional farming and complain of insufficient funds for extension activities. The paper recommended that the government (Federal, State and Local) should provide adequate finance in supporting organic farming extension. A vigorous campaign to highlight the benefits of organic farming against the conventional system could also be essential to increase the awareness of farmers and consumers.
