The groundworks consisted of the excavation of the foundation trenches of plots 1 & 2 and plots 3 & 4, and the service trench along the north side of the buildings. Three site visits were made, coinciding with the main phases of groundwork. A photographic record of the stratigraphic sequence, specific archaeological features and deposits, and general site circumstances was compiled in digital RAW format. Section drawings and plans were produced at scales 1:50 or 1:20 as appropriate and individual context descriptions were made for each unit of stratigraphy using pro forma recording sheets. Identified features were recorded through drawn sections at a scale of 1:10 or 1:20. All trenches and reference points used in planning were located by survey grade GPS. The current programme of works under archaeological supervision and control revealed the continuation of the redeposited sand deposit, which sealed the medieval topsoil, covered by more modern overburden. A possible medieval floor surface was recorded in section, as well as modern features and deposits.
