Does monitoring the Pleth Variability Index (PVi) predict intradialytic hypotension in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis?

Population

200 adult patients (aged 18 to 80 years) on chronic maintenance hemodialysis for more than 3 months with stable dialysis regimens. Median age 57.0 years, 55.5% male, based in China. Key exclusions: significant cardiac arrhythmias (e.g., persistent atrial fibrillation), severe peripheral circulation disorders, severe hemodynamic instability during dialysis, and pregnant or breastfeeding women.

Intervention

Monitoring of Pleth Variability Index (PVi) using a pulse oximeter (Philips IntelliVue with Masimo SET module) at baseline and 60 minutes into the hemodialysis session to calculate absolute change (ΔPVi) and percentage change (ΔPVi%).

Predictive value of PVi parameters (PVi baseline, PVi 1h, ΔPVi, and ΔPVi%) for intradialytic hypotension, as determined by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis.surrogate
