The original methodology (Orion 2019, CA 2019) comprised : " Archaeological monitoring and evaluation of test pitting; " Archaeological excavation of lift pit areas for both lifts and escalators; " Archaeological monitoring of service trench works; and " Post-excavation research, analysis, report and archive production. 4.2. The first phase of works was undertaken between June 2019 and February 2020. The methodology and results of this work are detailed in an interim report (CA 2020b) and comprised the archaeological monitoring and evaluation of eight investigative trenches and one geotechnical borehole (Trenches 1-8 and Borehole). Between June 2019 and March 2021, Cotswold Archaeology carried out a programme of archaeological work on land at the former British Homes Stores (BHS) building, 33-39 Eastgate Street, Gloucester. An area of 171m2 was excavated within the 2,500m2 site, together with a watching brief on the installation of drainage runs. A small number of probable in situ late Roman surfaces and deposits and post-Roman layers were exposed at the base of several areas of deeper excavation. Medieval soil layers, pits and ditches and post-medieval garden soils were also identified, although the bulk of the encountered remains comprised modern structural features associated with 19th and early 20th century former buildings and demolition deposits and structural remains associated with the construction of the British Home Stores building in the 1960s.
