This article examines the life and work of Donald Maclean, a prominent 20th-century figure in the Free Church of Scotland. Maclean is characterised as a ‘Pioneer Reformed Ecumenist’ who significantly impacted several spheres, including his roles as a minister, scholar and editor. The text highlights his extensive efforts to foster cooperation among Reformed churches internationally, particularly through his leadership in the Calvinistic Congresses and his editorship of The Evangelical Quarterly. It also explores his openness to contemporary theologians like Karl Barth, a stance that sometimes created tension within his own more conservative denomination.
