ABSTRACT During floristic investigations of Poaceae in the Western Himalaya, specimens representing the tribe Stipeae were collected. Critical examination of morphological characters, together with a thorough review of protologues and relevant taxonomic literature, confirmed their identity as Piptatherum songaricum , a species originally described from Europe. This species is here reported as a new record for India. A detailed morphological description, diagnostic characters, Photo Plates, illustrations, and comparisons with allied taxa are provided to facilitate accurate identification.
