This article analyzes the situation of war in Afghanistan during 1990 to 2003 through the lives of Mariam and Layla in Khaled Hosseini's novel A Thousand Splendid Suns. This study will provide examples from scholars through their research such as Iris Marion Young, Kimberlé Crenshaw and Gayatri Spivak. This study argues that war, gender inequality and class oppression damaged women's lives and made them invisible in society. Nevertheless, the novel also demonstrates that education and solidarity can empower women even in the most oppressive conditions, as seen through Layla's resilience.
