The African continent is considered to be of great importance to Russia in general, and specifically since its war in Ukraine. This importance has made Africa a target of Russian propaganda recently, for several reasons, including:Russia's desire to obtain political and diplomatic legitimacy for its war in Ukraine, especially since Moscow has faced severe international isolation since the war, and the African continent, with its limited capabilities and modest economic conditions, is considered a suitable environment for intensive Russian penetration. Consolidating relations with Russia, as it is a country almost closed in its war in Ukraine, may have been the goal of Sergei Lavrov’s extensive trips to African capitals to gain their support before the start of the recent African summit in St. Petersburg. An attempt by Russia to find an alternative market for its oil and non-oil products away from European markets, following the sanctions imposed by European countries on all types of transactions with Russia. This is with the aim of selling its products and pumping in new revenues that it desperately needs as long as the Ukrainian war continues.Russia obtains raw materials, especially gold, in exchange for its support for African governments, as is the case in Mali, Libya, Central Africa, and others, through the military involvement of Wagner forces, which in turn strengthens Russian influence on the African continent.
