Previous research has indicated a positive correlation between maximizing style and meaning in life. However, few studies have explored their longitudinal relationship. This study investigates the bidirectional longitudinal relationship between maximizing style and meaning in life. We conducted a longitudinal study at three time points with 565 participants. The results demonstrated a bidirectional relationship: maximizing style positively predicts meaning in life, and meaning in life positively predicts maximizing style. Notably, a cumulative effect was observed in this relationship. • Examines the bidirectional longitudinal link between maximizing style and meaning in life • A three-wave longitudinal study with 565 participants was conducted. • Maximizing style positively predicts meaning in life over time. • Meaning in life also positively predicts maximizing style longitudinally. • A cumulative effect emerges in their reciprocal relationship.
