In order to obtain information regarding disproportionation and recombination reactions of ethyl radicals and iodine atoms we have investigated the photolysis of various mixtures of diethyl ketone and methyl iodide. Ethyl radicals, produced by photolysis of diethyl ketone, react with iodine atoms, produced by photolysis of methyl iodide, according to reactions (13) and (14) C2H5+I→C2H4+HI,C2H5+I→C2H5I.The results indicate k13/k14=0.33±0.03. The influence of added gas and the effect of temperature are discussed.
