PURPOSE: This study aimed to induce genetic variability in Davana through gamma rays and identify superior mutants for essential oil content (EOC) and Davanone was conducted at CSIR-Central Institute on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Research Center, Bangalore. METHODS: . RESULTS: generation. Fresh herb yield increased from 190.8 g/plant (control) to 225.66 g/plant (mutants), while EOC and Davanone content increased from 0.12 to 0.42%, and 39.30 to 70.64%, respectively. The correlation study revealed positive and significant correlation of Davanone with plant height, 100 weight, and EOC. CONCLUSIONS: 1 (Davanone: 70.64%) signifies that gamma irradiations can effectively generate novel variability in Davana, enabling breeding of novel varieties with improved EOC and Davanone content.
