ABSTRACT Millets, renowned for their resilience in arid environments and nutritional value, are emerging as strategic crops in Indian agriculture. Advances in mechanization—including seed‐cum‐fertilizer drills, pneumatic planters, threshers, and specialized combine harvesters—have enhanced operational efficiency from field preparation to post‐harvest processing. These innovations offer higher productivity, reduced labor intensity, and energy savings. However, adoption remains limited due to high costs, low awareness, and a lack of region‐specific designs. Promoting affordable, millet‐specific machinery through targeted subsidies, training, and farmer‐centric service models can bridge this gap. Integrating engineering solutions with agronomic insights provides practical pathways to optimize millet farming systems, improve resource use efficiency, and expand cultivation across rainfed and smallholder‐dominated landscapes.
