Data from a nationwide recreation survey were used to examine constraints to participation in outdoor recreation across the life span. Few significant barriers to participation in outdoor recreation were identified by all segments of the population. Life span, however, was considered important for determining who will stop or reduce participation in recreation activities. The findings suggest constraints to participation are both pervasive, and can be dichotomized into limitors and prohibitors, and should be of major concern to providers of recreation services.
