This practical note proposes a pair-based, central-outward first pass for tuning a standard six-string guitar. The proposed order is (4,3) -> (5,2) -> (6,1), or in standard tuning (D3,G3) -> (A2,B3) -> (E2,E4). Each string contributes tension to the neck and bridge, so a string that has just been tuned may still shift slightly while the remaining strings are brought near pitch. By tuning in three expanding pairs (center pair first, outer pair last), this order can reduce large return corrections on the first pass. A light follow-up pass, or occasionally two, in the same order then corrects the remaining small shifts. The note also identifies this pair-based order as a possible lightweight control heuristic for automatic or robotic guitar tuners.
