An archaeological field evaluation of the site consisting of a single 8m x 1.8m trench plus a contingency of c.1.5m2 (10%) squared to clarify features extending beyond the trench edge. The Evaluation uncovered a single archaeological feature that could only be partially excavated due to the spatial constraints of the site. It is possible that the feature, that may well have been a large pit, extends into a disused pond to the east. Considering the close proximity to the medieval earthworks immediately east of the site and the fact that the artefacts found within the feature dated from the 11th-15th centuries, it is likely that the feature is part of the wider medieval landscape. This small evaluation has, therefore, provided more physical evidence to help address the research aims concerned with the extent of medieval activity in the region, even if the full understanding of the nature and function of the feature are as yet uncertain.
