The article analyses lexical lacunas in the Russian President V. V. Putin’s discourse during the last five years in the aspect of translation. Such types of lexical lacunas as absolute and relative, one-component and two-component ones are distinguished. Among the techniques to translate lacunas, the authors identify transcription and transliteration, calque, descriptive translation, substitution, concretization and generalization, neutralization. The translator’s solutions determined by the context of lexical units are described.
