The resource-intensive lifestyle of people has given birth to unsustainable consumption. This paper combines the existing knowledge on antecedents of sustainable consumption (SC) to enhance the understanding and highlights the significance of new research. It also identifies new research ideas in the area of sustainable/green consumption. The review reveals the sparse work done in examining the impact of certain socio-psychographic antecedents and the sustainable consumption process as a whole. This review, though a selective rather than exhaustive, identifies 28 independent variables as antecedents of SC and it suggests to look at the linear and nonlinear effects of individual level factors as well as institutional level factors.
