This article attempts to map the everyday life of the borderlanders living along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. Looking through Martinez’s model of “alienated borderland,” and incorporating insights from Manto’s short story as well from the theoretical construct of what is referred to as “borderscapes,” the paper, using a narrative method involving listening to people through field study and traveling to some border areas, examines the struggles and marginalization of the people living along the volatile LoC.
