Surface films formed on lithium metal in contact with THF and 2Me‐THF solutions of , were analyzed within situ and ex situ Raman microspectroscopy. The main reaction product detected by in situ Raman spectroscopy in electrolyte was polytetrahydrofuran (PTHF). The conditions for the polymerization reaction in the presence of lithium metal have been determined. THF decomposition reaction mechanisms are discussed. The formation of a brown film on the lithium surface was observed in both solvents. This brown film appears to be thermodynamically unstable, moisture and laser sensitive. Decomposition reaction products have been determined as arsenolite and arsenious oxyfluorides .
