Social responsibility and computer education

The issue of responsibility on the part of the computer professional is one that has blossomed very recently. Members of the computing field have become very much aware of some of the issues, even if there isn't any consensus on how to handle them. The ACM debates on standards of professional conduct and on the desirability of a professional society such as the ACM taking formal positions on social issues are illustrative.
