Responsive sensing clusters: By linking (Mo) Mo5 type building units with different spacers, spherical clusters (nanosponges) having 20 different nanosized and tunable MonOm pores/macrocycles of the type and quality of the classical crown ethers of supramolecular chemistry are formed (see picture of an Mo9O9-type host with guanidinium ion (NH2) 3C+ guests; Mo blue, O red, N green, C black). This property allows the development of a novel spherical-surface and nanoporous-cluster chemistry with the possibility of the formation of extended cluster networks (solid-state structures), as well a modeling of cell responses to extracellular signal molecules.
