This paper promotes the idea of embedded gentrification. Gentrification is immersed in latent industrial and ethnic settings. Employing visual, interview, and ethnographic data collected from a multi‐year study of the Williamsburg, Brooklyn neighbourhood in New York City, it rethinks the relationship of gentrification to the existing social and built environment.
