• Three percent (116/3,463) of all newborns admitted to the Yale-New Haven (Conn) Hospital Newborn Special Care Unit had seizures during a recent three-year period. A retrospective study demonstrated that in 65% (75/116) of those patients, the seizures were directly attributable to perinatal complications. Computed axial tomographic scans were performed in 84% (47/56) of the infants with perinatal complications who survived more than 72 hours, and they were found to be particularly useful in evaluating the conditions of the full-term infants within that group.
