One hundred and forty-seven cases of gross disease of the head and neck were irradiated between Jan. 1, 1963, and June 1, 1968. Nineteen patients were irradiated because the surgical specimen did not show an adequate margin. Only one patient was lost to follow-up. Tables give the relative importance of histologic type, anatomic site of primary lesion, and late recurrence, and also give the relation between prophylactic irradiation and gross recurrence and between failure above the clavicle and technique of treatment. Seven cases are reported in detail.
