• A Selective Coating electrodeposition process on Al is developed. • Black nickel selective coating on Al achieves a solar absorptance of 94.3%. • The developed selective coating is thermally stable at 200°C for 200 hours. • Photothermal conversion efficiency reaches 90.1%, outperforming commercial paint.
