International Studies Perspectives in 2017

The theme of the 2017 International Studies Association annual conference is “Understanding Change in World Politics.” Probably no one imagined the extent of the changes that would be upon us in 2017 when this conference theme was first proposed. This first issue of Volume 18 of International Studies Perspectives is being published in February at the same time as the annual conference, and so we offer this issue as the beginning of ISP’s contribution to understanding change in world politics. In Volume 18, number 1, we offer what we hope will be the first of many short commentaries. Imad Mansour, of Qatar University and rising caucus chair of the ISA Global South Caucus, writes “A Global South Perspective on International Relations Theory.” We hope our readers find this commentary as provocative as we do. We also call on other ISA caucus and section chairs to identify (or self-identify) authors for future commentaries that can follow this initial piece. Unfortunately, the space we can devote to these commentaries is short: we will run only one an issue, and the commentary must be less than 1,000 words. But we do encourage emerging caucus and section leaders to consider crafting forward-looking commentaries for possible publication.
