What factors are associated with low tension glaucoma compared to ocular hypertension?
Low tension glaucoma is associated with higher rates of hemodynamic crises and lower systemic and ophthalmic blood pressures compared to ocular hypertension.
Forty-five patients with low tension glaucoma were compared with 45 ocular hypertensive patients matched for age and sex. The low tension glaucoma group had a significantly higher rate of hemodynamic crises, low systemic blood pressure, and low ophthalmic blood pressure. Progression occurred in fewer than half of the patients with low tension glaucoma.
